How often would you actually use it?

If you'd realistically use a vacation property two to four weeks a year, co-ownership likely fits well — most of a solo-owned property's calendar sits empty anyway, so sharing it costs you little in practice. If you want the ability to show up on a random Tuesday whenever the mood strikes, that flexibility is harder to get in a shared structure.

How do you feel about shared decision-making?

Co-ownership means some decisions about the property — maintenance choices, larger improvements, management — are made collectively, not unilaterally. If that sounds workable, even appealing, co-ownership fits. If the idea of needing group input on your vacation home genuinely bothers you, it's worth taking seriously as a signal.

What are you actually looking for — a place to use, or a financial vehicle?

Co-ownership through CoHaven is built around actual use — a property you and your co-owners visit and enjoy. It's not structured as a passive investment vehicle. If what you're really looking for is passive income or a financial return, this isn't the right structure, regardless of how the cost math looks.

Would you rather own a fraction of something great, or all of something smaller?

This is often the real question underneath all the others. A co-ownership share gets you a genuinely nicer property, in a location you might not otherwise reach, for a fraction of the cost — in exchange for sharing it. Some people would rather have full control of something more modest. Neither answer is wrong. It's just worth being honest with yourself about which one you actually are.
